Meet Our Staff
Cheryl brings nearly 3 decades of clinical experience to her therapy practice. She specializes in the treatment of chronic pain and manual therapy. She has a passion for her career, and has dedicated herself to ongoing continuing education so that each visit to her facility brings progress toward your goals. Cheryl received a Bachelor of Science in PT from CSULB in 1988, her Manual Therapy Certification from the University of St. Augustine in 1996, and a Master of Health Science from the University of St. Augustine in 2005. When not at work, Cheryl enjoys an active lifestyle, staying fit, gardening, and taking care of her children.

Maile graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2006. She became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2008. She received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from University of Southern California in 2009. Her treatment approach emphasizes functional therapeutic exercise, movement science, Pilates, and Manual Therapy. Maile is also a member of the APTA.
Maile enjoys an active lifestyle of dance, Pilates and running. In addition to her education, it is through participating in these activities that she has developed a passion for the biomechanics of the human body. She is prepared to help her patients succeed along the road of recovery here at Excel Physical Therapy.

Jovanna Sangria, Pilates Instructor/AideJovanna is a classically trained Pilates instructor and former college tennis player and coach. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communications and minor in Spanish from Hampton University. Upon graduation from college, Jovanna went through the Whole Body Method Pilates certification in Los Angeles. After being certified in 2011, Jovanna taught Pilates at Whole Body Method, Equinox, and currently teaches at White House Pilates in the South Bay. She has experience teaching Pilates and cross training to a variety of levels, from the pre and postnatal and professional athletes to clients with MS and Charcot-Marie tooth disease. Jovanna has a passion for healing people through movement. Jovanna fell in love with Pilates during her last semester of college. Though a college athlete, she needed one more physical education class. She chose Pilates to fulfill her class requirements, and immediately saw the positive effects of Pilates on her body. Pilates gave her more energy, core strength, and flexibility, all of which improved her performance on the tennis court. Aside from Pilates Jovanna has taught tennis to kids of all ages. She was a certified Professional Tennis Registry coach. She is also fluent in Tagalog and Spanish.

- First, call the number on the back of your health insurance card to verify if Physical Therapy (PT) is a covered benefit. Ask the agent how much PT is covered, and what your financial responsibility would be. It is not required by law to have a referral from your doctor to attend Physical Therapy, but some insurance companies still require one for PT to be a covered benefit.
